November 15th, 2010
Year 6 took part in a full day’s workshop with the Opera North Company on Thursday 11th November.
Throughout the day the children took part in drama exercises and activities including acting out the story of Pinocchio, in small groups. The children also had their first taste of singing opera! Who would have thought you could sing a song about a banana in opera style! They also learnt a couple of the songs from the show and had the opportunity to decide on staging for a scene from the show.
After the day’s workshop the children were enthused and excited about Opera and 12 children attended the Theatre Royal on Friday 12th November to see how a real opera is done. We watched ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’ and all thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Year 6 encourage you all to go and see an opera, you will be pleasantly surprised how much you will enjoy it!
