Entomology Fun for Year 5’s STEAM Week

Entomology Fun for Year 5’s STEAM Week Year 5 have been learning all about Maria Sibylla Merian who was an entomologist who loved bugs.  She was a fantastic artist who had great attention to detail of the flowers and bugs she painted.

 

The children have also enjoyed building a huge bridge with ICE Bridges.  They have been amazing engineers this week and throughly enjoyed STEAM 2018.

Year 1 – Coding Club

Year 1 – Coding Club Year 5 Digital Ambassadors have started their coding club with Year 1 children.  They decided to use ‘Daisy The Dinosaur’ coding app to introduce coding skills.

The Digital Ambassadors recorded the children’s learning and progress using Seesaw and annotated their screen shots with a caption about how the learner had got on.

They have now planned challenges for the next session.

Tyne Together 2018 – 7 Billion Ideas Project 2018

Tyne Together 2018 – 7 Billion Ideas Project 2018 This year, children in KS2 took part in the second Tyne Together - 7 Billion Ideas Project.  Children worked in small groups to develop a world changing invention. They then had to make a prototype and present this to their class.  Each class selected a winner and each class winner presented their idea to the whole school.

Year 5’s team ‘The Underwater Protection’ were selected as the school winner and took place in the finals day alongside 25 other schools.

They were recognised for their great stall and won an award in this category.

Year 6 visit to Tyneside Cinema Year 6 have been learning all about the history of the Tyneside Cinema.  Today they enjoyed a visit to the cinema and had a tour and learnt more about the history of the cinema.  We also had great fun completing our IMutt challenge!

Reception – STEAM Day 2 – Team challenge building a bridge for a boat to sail under. Reception have enjoyed the challenge of making a bridge from any material of their choice. The bridge has to be tall enough to so that a boat 20cm tall can sail underneath. There has been some fantastic team work, listening, cooperation and responding to each other's ideas. Children have been measuring their bridge, adapting their work and being resilient in the process. Tomorrow we continue adapting and modifying our work.

As the children were dressed up in red, white and blue for the day to celebrate our International day for Elham who is leaving the school to go back to Paris

Year 4 visit the Baltic!

Year 4 visit the Baltic! This term Year 4 have been learning all about rivers.  As part of this we learnt about bridges along the River Tyne within our DT lessons.  To end this topic we visited some of these bridges today.  We walked across the Millenium Bridge, Swing Bridge and High Level Bridge as well as visiting the Baltic's viewing terrace to sketch the bridges.  It was a very fun filled adventure.
