At Redesdale Primary School we provide opportunities for children to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in Design Technology through creative problem solving, developing ideas and making a range of products. Children are encouraged to use their imagination to design and make products and develop their skills and knowledge of tools and different materials. The subject is extremely stimulating for children as it is part of their immediate experience. The curriculum is planned so children can combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as product functions. This allows them to reflect and evaluate past and present design and technology and potential innovators in the future. Our school forest area provides the ideal environment for children to develop their skills. Children will be taught how to use different materials and tools safely and appropriately and will represent their ideas using drawing and sketches, whilst exploring the the work of inspiring engineers and architects. The use of ICT and appropriate software enhances provision.
In our school the Design Technology lessons allow children to develop invaluable skills, such as working independently in pairs and groups by cooperating, sharing ideas and discussing and evaluating their work and the work of others.
