Governors

Growing and learning together

What is a Governing Body?

The role of a School Governor is demanding but very rewarding and a good way to give back to your local community. School Governing Bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure it delivers good quality education. The Governing body has 3 core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the effective and efficient performance management of staff.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Body is split in to a small number of committees which meet separately from the main Governing Body to discuss relevant issues in more detail. Discussion is then fed back at a Full Governing Body meeting. The Full Governing Body meets 4 times per year.
