Growing and learning together

MUSIC

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. It is a vehicle for personal expression, and it can play an important part in the personal development of people. Music can engage and inspire children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Music contributes to improving the mental wellbeing of individuals by helping children feel part of a community, develop perseverance, self-awareness and self-motivation.

At Redesdale Primary School, we provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music and to develop the skills to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms, allowing them to compose and to listen with enthusiasm and inspiration. Children are given opportunities to sing and play musically with increasing confidence and control. They are encouraged to develop an understanding of musical composition, organising and manipulating ideas within musical structures and reproducing sounds from aural memory.
