Foundation Stage
Year 1 have started our Art and Geography project of making a 3D map of Newcastle using papier-mâché. So far we have a river, a Sage building and developing the landscape. Over the next few weeks we will be developing the landscape using different material linking to our materials topic in Science and creating sculptures linked to our Art unit.
Key Stage One
We were very lucky today to have Lucy tell us all about the Atlantic Ocean and Michael share his experiences of deep sea diving. Thank you. Great learning.
Lower Key Stage Two
Year 5 are learning about rainforests in Geography this half term. They have been using the information on their knowledge organisers to learn about the location of rainforests according to their climates. They have enjoyed using atlases to locate rainforests on different continents.
Foundation Stage
Reception have enjoyed walking to the Rising Sun Country Park. We explored different ways of building dens and then looked for mini-beats. Using our mini bug viewers with a magnifying lens on the top we looked closely at many different mini-beasts.
The children loved exploring how they moved and looking at the bodies of the mini-beasts. We closely at slugs, centipedes, millipedes, a dragon fly, a bee, spiders, worms, beetles, woodlouse, daddy long legs and more.
Some of the dens had interesting features including a washing line, a washing machine, a rabbit trap
Key Stage One
Year one had an excellent day learning about the lighthouse and looking for signs of life in the surrounding rock pools. We climbed all the way to the top of the lighthouse and really enjoyed finding the crabs; some of which were rather large!
Lower Key Stage Two
Year 1 enjoyed an excellent trip learning about the life of fishermen and history of industry at the Old Low Lights on North Shields Fish Quay. They had the chance to find out about life boats and how they operate too.
To finish the day we had a walk along the river to Tynemouth. A super day had by all!
Key Stage One
This morning, Year 1 created their own pieces of art based on the River Tyne. They painted their river backgrounds, then cut out and glued their own boats on top. A lot of excellent artwork Year 1, well done!
Lower Key Stage Two
This term Year 4 have been learning all about rivers. As part of this we learnt about bridges along the River Tyne within our DT lessons. To end this topic we visited some of these bridges today. We walked across the Millenium Bridge, Swing Bridge and High Level Bridge as well as visiting the Baltic's viewing terrace to sketch the bridges. It was a very fun filled adventure.
Key Stage One
On Wednesday Year 2 visited St. Mary's Heritage Centre to investigate the Great Fire of Gateshead.
Foundation Stage
Reception children loved predicting what would happen when adding salt to the ice balloons and then adding food colouring to see rivers and volcanoes!
We also enjoyed watching parents from the local community cooking Chinese food as part of our celebrations for Chinese New Year on Saturday 28th January 2017.
